Washboard Mary
If I should lose sight
Remind me of my life
The beauty of the soul
The individual
If I should lose sight
Remind me of my life
The majesty of Earth
The fires of the turf

Blackberries and Pine Needles
That Emerald Road that runs to Mississippi
Where you see the dirt turn from black to red
I'm going there but I don't think you'll miss me
There I won't know those lies you said
Blackberries and Pine Needles
They catch me and brush on by
Blackberries and Pine Needles
Tear my skin and make me cry
Memories sitting there beside you
Those moments now still haunt me
Which start just staring at this campfire
The stars alone can fill my dreams
Blackberries and Pine Needles
They catch me and brush on by
Blackberries and Pine Needles
Tear my skin and make me cry
Blackberries and Pine Needles
They hurt me just like your lies
Blackberries and Pine Needles
Tear my skin and I cry
All alone on that old porch swing
It's getting late but what can I do?
I've thought it out, I know that when I leave here
that Emerald Road won't take me back to you...
Back to you
Blackberries and Pine Needles
They catch me and brush on by
Blackberries and Pine Needles
Tear my skin and make me cry
Blackberries and Pine Needles
They hurt me just like your lies
Blackberries and Pine Needles
Tear my skin and I cry
Cry
And I cry
That Emerald Road that runs to Mississippi
Where you see the dirt turn from black to red

Jude

Jude
Jude's a philosopher a man about town
He sees and knows just what is all going down
He's got some troubles yea but hey don't we all?
His luck's run out. He knew it had to fall
The trouble started with a debt he couldn't pay
His best girl caught him with his second best today
Jude got himself trapped in every kind of way
And how to fix all this, man, he couldn't say
And now...
He's counting days like rosary beads
But Jude's conflicted by all that he sees
He's making a list of all the pros and the cons
But Jude knows by Sunday he'll be moving on
Jude loves this city though; he knows its flow
He knows who'll give him things and who would say no
Jude loved a woman once wish she'd come back for more
He'd be all over her like misery on the poor
And now...
He's counting days like rosary beads
But Jude's conflicted by all that he sees
He's making a list of all the pros and the cons
But Jude knows by Sunday he'll be moving on
The Man is out to get him. He's running from the law.
He prays he'd never seen all of those things he saw.
Even though he can't pay he buys another round
Later on they're gonna run him right out of town
So Run Jude Run
Run Jude Run

Stopped

Stopped
Slow driving on a short ride home
Mind racing chasing memories and hopes
Sun sliding up starting a slow summer day
The sun chasing the moon away
A train pulls up
Right on my left
Stretching more than I can see
And up ahead there is no end for me
So why am I stopped?
What is this life?
Why am I stopped?
Should I stay or should I go?
What am I running so hard to?
In a rush to get to nowhere
Turn around or see it through?
The roads all lead back to this place
And this dead pace my life has found
Back to here and here I’m stopped
Out there no one waits for me
No thing no how no holding me back
What is this life? A string of days?
To months to years they fade away
And here I am right where I was
Unchanged unmoving
Just like the year before I want much more
So why am I stopped?
What is this life?
Why am I stopped?
Should I stay or should I go?
What am I running so hard to?
In a rush to get to nowhere
Turn around or see it through?
The roads all lead back to this place
And this dead pace my life has found
Back to here and here I’m stopped
The roads all lead back to this place
And this dead pace my life has found
Back to here and here I go

Firearms and Fireflies

Firearms and Fireflies
There’s a difference between knowing and knowing better
There’s a difference between knowing and knowing better
In a shotgun in the shadow of a billboard
She lives and daily senses
To ask and answer all alone
While colors bleed across the sky
Clouds converge or they drift alone
While cicadas scream and the river shines along
They sing
Oo de lally lullaby
Oo de lally lullaby
Firearms and fireflies
Flash and thunder in the night
Freely falling
Rippled leaves in jagged motion
Catch my throat and burn my eyes
A noble savage haunts this place
A trace of grace displaced with time
Oo de lally lullaby
Oo de lally lullaby
Firearms and fireflies
Flash and thunder in the night
Freely falling
I feel forever like Aurora sleeps
But I know she’ll be back again
Amber lenses cleanse my eyes
The sky the breeze the trees now sigh
Oo de lally lullaby
Oo de lally lullaby
Firearms and fireflies
Flash and thunder in the night
Freely falling
And we struggle and we break
And we give and we take
And we do it all over
And we struggle and we break
And we give and we take
And we do it all over
Yeah we do it all over
Just to do it all over
I confess, undress
Just bless me with your lullaby
Oo de lally lullaby

Here We Go!
03:39
|

Here We Go!
I pass knee-high iron fences
With knee-high porcelain door knobs
I drift, floating with the heat fog in the night
The streetlight is broken
And I can’t seem to find my car
[Chorus]
‘Cause it’s I who’s small not Alice
And it’s me whose brain’s in clouds
But the words I say aren’t malice
I just speak what I think out loud
Mea culpa’s not my style
So let’s go here we go
I forgot what you were saying
But I don’t want to be your friend
My hope and the truth just blend
And now I just want to leave you
But the night with me you’ll spend
[Chorus]
I slam shut my open window
Bump my hip on the foot of the bed
Then you mock all the book’s I’ve read
So I tell you I hate you
And we just watch TV instead
[Chorus]
So here we go!
[Chorus]

Comes a Time

Comes a Time
Comes a time
when you're driftin'
Comes a time
when you settle down
Comes a light
feelin's liftin'
Lift that baby
right up off the ground.
Oh, this old world
keeps spinning round
It's a wonder tall trees
ain't layin' down
There comes a time.
You and I we were captured
We took our souls
and we flew away
We were right
we were giving
That's how we kept
what we gave away.
Oh, this old world
keeps spinning round
It's a wonder tall trees
ain't layin' down
There comes a time.

When the Fog Rolls In
09:23

When the Fog Rolls In
Evangeline in the bar unwinds
She saw her man Gabe her secret love so fine
But Gabe didn’t speak to Evangeline
And her tears grew warm as the fog rolled in
From across the bar she says she’s fine
Thinking how he’d sing, “Evangeline! She’s mine oh mine!”
He laughed with his friends while she was crying
And he left the bar when the fog rolled in
She walks from the bar
She walks to her car
She opens the note
That Gabe had wrote
“Meet me tonight I’m sorry
I’ll be waiting for you love
Please come get me
I know it’s late
And hard to see
But I can’t take this misery now
Please hurry dear
I’ll be waiting by that old oak tree”
So she drove to the spot that once was theirs
Where he carved a heart to prove he cared
Evangeline waited unaware
Oak trees look alike when the fog rolls in
For an hour or more she had waited
She prayed that this pain would soon be sated
Then Evangeline it was love she hated
So she gave up on Gabe when the fog rolled in
Her foot on the gas heavy as her heart
Those headlights can’t cut through the mist and dark
Holding back tears all alone in that car
In that runaway car
When the fog rolled in
Gabe lay down tired against the tree
Without him there ain’t much a life for me
She didn’t brake she just crashed right in
To where Gabe fell asleep when the fog rolled in
Well together forever in peace to lay
The secret affair of the girl and her Gabe
Evangeline with her love will stay
And you can still see their ghosts
When the fog rolls in
